Roman Academy (浪漫学園 Rōman Gakuen) is the high school which many characters attend. It is a large co-ed school that teaches students from 15 to 18 years of age. In Chapter 40.5, it is described as a private school with loose regulations and a laid-back atmosphere.

Many large trees dot the campus, and a bike rack is available outside. Sports fields for track, baseball, and other various sports are also available. There is a pegasus-like statue in the front, and a giant clock has been placed in the center of the main building outside.

Dress Code[]

Roman Academy school uniform

Variations of the school uniform

Students are required to wear a uniform. The uniform consists of the gray school blazer with a white collared shirt, and navy/black pants for boys, or a navy pleated skirt for girls. The front pocket of these shirts and blazers are emblazoned with the school emblem. The boys typically wear a tie while the girls wear a bow. The students all wear typical Japanese school shoes during the day, and change their shoes before heading home or attending sports clubs.

The colors of the school ties represent different grade levels. First-years wear green ties, second-years wear red ties, and third-years wear blue ties. However, it is unknown if this color scheme also applies to ribbons.

School bags

School bag options

Each main character has their own style of wearing their uniforms. For example, Nozaki always dresses smartly. Chiyo wears a blue bow instead of the school-issued ribbon. Mikoshiba typically wears a plain red or yellow shirt underneath his white collared shirt, and dresses without a tie. Kashima wears a black sweater over her shirt. Hori wears a blue shirt instead of a white one. Seo's skirt is shortened, and she wears no socks. Wakamatsu wears a green sweater over his shirt.

According to the Official Fanbook, students are given the freedom to wear almost whatever they want. Students can wear their own accessories, such as Chiyo's unique blue ribbon. Additionally, inner wear, such as Mikoshiba's red shirt, is allowed by school rules.

Classes[]

The students are seated at normal desks and chairs. There is a larger desk in the front for the teacher, placed in front of the blackboard. Sliding doors are used to enter classes, and the windows are adorned with white curtains. Lockers can be located behind the students’ desks. Small potted plants and flowers are usually placed on top of these lockers.

The halls have fire extinguishers and small cabinets placed along one side of the wall, underneath the windows. Bulletin boards are scattered along the walls, displaying information about clubs, activities, notices, etc.

Clubs[]

Main Article: Roman Academy/Clubs

Art Club[]

A fairly popular club which holds after-school meetings. They work on a variety of different art forms, including figure sketching, painting, and watercolor, but mainly focus on realism. Chiyo Sakura is a member of this club. There are no male members in the manga, although some are shown in the anime.

Drama Club[]

A club that performs plays for the school. Masayuki Hori is the club's president, and Yuu Kashima is the star and club's prince. Unknown to the members except Hori, Umetarou Nozaki often writes the club's cheesy play scripts.

Choir Club[]

All the members are female. Yuzuki Seo is the "Lorelei of the Choir Club" because of her beautiful singing. In inter-school choir competitions, she is promoted to "Little Mermaid of Roman Academy" for her silence, which is done to maintain her image.

Basketball Club[]

The male and female teams are separate. Seo often "assists" both the male and female teams for practice. Hirotaka Wakamatsu is a starting member of the male team, and treated as a beloved younger member.

Other Sports Clubs[]

Roman Academy also has a number of sports clubs aside from basketball, such as volleyball, rugby, soccer, and table tennis, which are all mentioned by the Art Club members in Chapter 86. A baseball club is also mentioned in Chapter 62 when Seo was asked to assist them.

Special Areas[]

Roof[]

The roof is covered by a tall mesh-style fence on all sides. This place was featured prominently in Episode 6, when Wakamatsu "challenged" Seo based on his shoujo manga studies.

Gate[]

The front gate is the main entryway to the school. Cherry blossom trees are placed right at the entrance. Differently sized bushes are also placed inside and outside of the school. This place was mainly featured in Episode 12. On the day of the entrance ceremony, Sakura boarded the wrong train and was late for school. When she finally arrived at school, she saw Nozaki, who had fallen asleep while trying to climb over the gate. Waking up suddenly, he asked Sakura if she was late as well, and offered a hand. She couldn’t help herself up, so he jumped down and lifted her over. This was the moment when Sakura first fell in love with Nozaki. She claimed that he had saved her and cheered her up when she was about to cry.

Library[]

The library is a large area filled with tall bookshelves. It is a prominent setting in Chapter 75, where Nozaki and Mikoshiba exchange letters to gather reference material for Let's Fall in Love.

Trivia[]

  • The 浪漫 (rōman) in Roman Academy means "romance".
  • Three stations away from Roman Academy, there is an all-girls' middle school, which Rei Kashima and Yoshino both attend.
