Summary[]
Chiyo Sakura asks Umetarou Nozaki and Masayuki Hori how they became friends. Nozaki claims that they met by exchanging a diary, but Hori corrects him and says that it was actually a relay novel. They go on to explain that Nozaki saw a drama script that Hori had written and started adding to it. Then when Hori noticed the additions, he added to it as well. Eventually, Hori asked Nozaki if he could write more scripts for the drama club, and Nozaki asked Hori if he could help with backgrounds. Hori learned how to draw backgrounds and went to Nozaki's apartment without any hesitation.
Nozaki decides to try a relay novel in a shoujo manga style, and also recruits Hirotaka Wakamatsu to join them. However, Hori pretty quickly strays from the shoujo theme, and Wakamatsu keeps writing about unrelated characters instead of focusing on the ones he's been given. Sakura attempts to get the two to take the relay novel more seriously by bribing them, but they suck up to Sakura too much by turning the main characters into Sakura and Nozaki. Sakura then offers to write their sections for them, but quickly realizes that it's no longer a relay novel.
Frustrated, Sakura asks Nozaki if they can just do the relay novel themselves instead. Nozaki is confused at first, until he realizes that Sakura was just having problems with Hori and Wakamatsu not cooperating. Nozaki invites Mikoto Mikoshiba to participate with them. Mikoshiba writes branching storylines, similar to options in a dating simulator. However, when Sakura chooses one of the options and writes about a girl being able to stalk the boy she is in love with while she is invisible, Nozaki realizes that everybody except for Mikoshiba sucks at writing relay novels.
